Zero Nutrients to Thriving Garden | Off-Grid Soil Rebuild
Zero Nutrients to Thriving Garden | Off-Grid Soil Rebuild We're transforming 5 acres of abandoned land in southern Italy into a completely off-grid homestead. This week, we're starting a big experiment—attempting to bring our depleted, sandy soil back to life. Our new greenhouse sits on land that's been abandoned for a long time. The soil is virtually sand with zero nutrients (in most places). If we want to grow our own food here, we need to rebuild the soil from scratch—we have no idea if this will actually work, but we are willing to attempt it! 🧪 The Soil Experiment: We're mixing our homemade compost with natural amendments to create living soil. This is trial and error and we're learning as we go, and hoping we can transform this empty soil into something that can actually grow food. We're documenting the entire process—the wins, the failures and everything we learn along the way. This is our share of raw, real off-grid homesteading in Italy. So, if you're into DIY builds, regenerative agriculture, permaculture, or watching land transformations, you're in the right place. No shortcuts, no machines, just two people trying to create a self-sufficient life from abandoned land.
