It has the name recognition and the mass appeal, and while its recipe might not be a secret, it is a winning one. All three of the CR-V's trims (excluding the hybrid variants, which we review separately) feature a 190-hp four-cylinder engine, the option of either front- or all-wheel drive, and comfortable seating for five. While the Mazda CX-50 offers more luxury and the Ford Bronco Sport is more capable off-road, the CR-V is a better all-arounder, with pleasant driving dynamics, ample cargo space, and solid build quality. It's that very balance of attributes that earned the CR-V a spot on our 2026 10Best list. What's New for 2026? The Honda CR-V gets mainly tech-focused updates for 2026. All trims receive a 9.0-inch central touchscreen, which is 2.0 inches larger than the one found in the 2025 CR-V, and the EX-L model gets a new 10.2-inch digital instrument display. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are now standard, as is a wireless smartphone-charging pad. All-wheel-drive models also feature enhanced traction-management programming that improves off-road performance at low speeds. New 18-inch wheel designs are available on all trims. Engine, Transmission, and Performance Behind the CR-V's upright grille is a standard 190-hp turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder. It pairs with a continuously variable automatic transmission and either front- or all-wheel drive. This setup is standard on the LX, EX, and EX-L models. Every CR-V has hill-descent control that helps modulate the compact SUV's speed on steep or slippery declines, and new traction-management programming should improve low-speed off-road performance. Most models are fitted with a set of 18-inch wheels. While it lacks the handling thrills we love in the Mazda CX-50 and the Volkswagen Tiguan, the new CR-V provides a smooth ride and enough moxie to avoid being boring. Interior, Comfort, and Cargo The CR-V's handsome interior design is highlighted by a honeycomb-textured insert spanning most of the dash, discreetly hiding the air vents. The steering wheel frames a partially digital gauge cluster in LX and EX trims and a digital 10.2-inch gauge cluster in the EX-L. Honda says the front seats are designed to decrease driver fatigue on long trips. Between the front-seat passengers is a large center console bin, and behind them are reclining back seats with plenty of rear legroom. There's 39 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row with the adjustable load floor in its lowest position, which is enough space to fit 12 carry-ons behind the rear seats, two more than the Toyota RAV4 can manage.
