BBK 1615 Header Unboxing and Review 1996 - 2004 Mustang

Today I am going to do a quick unboxing of a set of BBK shorty headers model 1615. These are for the 96-04 mustang with the 4.6. Eventually, I'll be installing these on my 2003 GT. If you have been considering these, you have no doubt done some research on various forums and watched YouTube videos and done all of that. You probably have already learned that there is very little performance gain to be achieved with these on a stock 2v motor. The dollar to HP gain ratio / dollar to pain in the butt of installation ratio really just isn't worth it. However, if you are starting to build your engine and are making higher horsepower, then these can start to make some difference. For example, my car is supercharged currently making ~430HP and I am going to be changing the supercharger pulley and that should get me up closer to 460 and I am also planning for the future, I am slowly collecting parts to build a forged bottom end and better flowing top end. I've already purchased a set of Trick Flow heads that will complement these headers very well. Also, I am swapping k-members shortly making this the perfect time to install these. Another reason I went with these is that I live in California where we have to do a smog inspection every two years. Any aftermarket performance part that you add to your engine, intake or exhaust must have a CARB EO number to be legal in California. CARB EO stands for California air resources board executive order. There are no long tube headers that have the CARB EO certification. So we make due with what is available. The cost of these can be pretty steep and are currently about $370. However, if you watch the BBK website, they will have reconditioned parts at a pretty steep discount. That is where I got these from and paid ~$278. However, after a couple of weeks with no shipment notification, I called BBK and they told me that the recondition part, 1615-R, was no longer in stock and shipped me new set at the same price. That was very cool BBK! Thank you very much. These header come in two versions, chrome or ceramic coated. The ceramic will run you about another $80.BBK does have installation procedures on their website but search YouTube and you can find several good resources for tips and tricks for your install. As mentioned, these can be a real pain to get mounted! Look for the best option that suits your situation. Summary: ON QUALITY: I would say that the construction looks very good and should be by now as I am certain that there are thousands of SN95 / New Edge mustangs running around with these at this point in time. They've been making these forever. ON PRICE: The price is pretty steep for sure. However, keep your eyes open for deals and even look for used ones on forums, CL and Facebook market place. They show up every so often. I would have no problem installing a used set. I looked and just couldn't find a set in the time frame I needed them. So, if you stumble across a set for a killer price, pick them, set them for when you are ready. ON INSTALLATION: Probably the easiest would be to just drop the K-member completely. Many have done the install with the k-member in with just loosening and dropping it as much as possible but still have quite a struggle. As I mentioned, my k-member is coming out completely and that is the best time to do this for me. that'll wrap up this video. Please like, share, or subscribe. It's up to you. Stay tuned for more videos. Thanks for watching! BBK Website: https://www.bbkperformance.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=1615 I have not been compensated for any parts reviewed in this video.
