Maximum Motorsports MMFCAB-2 Delrin Control Arm Bushing Unboxing and Review
Today I am going to be unboxing a set of Delrin control arm bushings from Maximum Motorsports part number MMFCAB-2. These will work on MM front control arms for 1979-2004 mustangs. Maximum Motorsports Delrin Bushings: https://www.maximummotorsports.com/Delrin-Bushing-Kit-for-MM-Front-Control-Arms-P991.aspx I currently have prothane polyurethane bushings and those seems to work just fine. I am changing to the Delrin specifically because I am changing my stock K-member to a BMR KM744 designed for road racing. The KM744 has two pivot points for adjusting the pivot location of the control arms to correct the control arm geometry in lowered cars. In doing so they have placed the holes so close together that I believe that the more compliant polyurethane will conform to the adjacent hole and bind up. Polyurethane is not particularly soft but it is compliant. At any rate, the Delrin is an upgrade and I am also changing the steering rack bushings to Delrin as well. Tie rod ends will remain polyurethane. Everything will be nice and tight and there will be very little deflection. However, Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) will be increased. The main benefits of these bushing are: The less compliant Delrin improves performance by reducing deflection. Delrin has much greater longevity than urethane, particularly during the heavy braking encountered when open-tracking. The MMFCAB-2 kit includes: • 8 direct replacement Delrin bushings • 4 steel crush sleeves • 2 packages of Prothane super sticky grease • 2 Self-locking ball joint nuts Cost is pretty steep for these. These sell for about $140 direct from MM. With tax and shipping it came in at $171 for me. So the wrap up: Quality: Quality is as good as you would expect from Maximum Motorsports. You really can go wrong with their stuff. Price: It is high for sure. However, I couldn’t find anyone else making these. So, supply and demand? I don’t know what the raw material cost are for all of this but I am sure that MM is making a pretty good margin on these. Installation: These will be really straight forward. If you already have MM control arms, you know how much easier it is to replace these compared to the stock bushings. Overall Impression: I think these will do nicely. So, that’s it for this video.
