THIS FISH IS WORTH MORE THAN MY HOUSE

In today’s video, we uncover something incredible hidden deep in the overgrown garden — a forgotten pond with a single koi carp left behind. We named him Ghost, and this is his story. When I first found Ghost, he was surviving in a shallow swamp — murky water, barely any filtration, and surrounded by weeds. But koi carp are fighters, and I knew straight away he deserved better. So, with the help of Aquascape, we’ve set out to build Ghost a brand-new home — a crystal-clear ecosystem pond designed to work with nature, not against it. We also welcome Steven, a brand-new koi, who joins Ghost in his upgraded home. But getting everything right wasn’t easy — we used Ghost’s old bowl to build a custom filtration system, learning through trial and error to make sure the water stays balanced and healthy. This build is about more than just giving a fish a new home — it’s about understanding where koi come from and why they’ve become one of the most admired fish species in the world. ⸻ 🏮 The History of Koi Carp Koi carp originated in Japan over 200 years ago, when rice farmers began selectively breeding common carp for their vibrant colours. What started as a humble food fish became a living art form — a symbol of strength, prosperity, and perseverance. Over time, koi carp came to represent wealth and good fortune, often kept in temple ponds and royal gardens. Each colour has its own meaning — from red symbolising love and energy, to gold representing success and abundance. Today, koi keeping has evolved into a global passion, with some individual fish selling for hundreds of thousands of pounds.
