The Block Volley: A Pickleball Superpower for Players Over 50
When they go hard, you go soft. That is the block volley, and it is one of the most useful shots a player over 50 can have. In this lesson, Coach Tony Roig walks you through how to absorb a hard-hit ball instead of fighting fire with fire. You will learn the paddle preparation that sets the shot up, why your body, not your paddle, is usually the cause of your block volley errors, and how lighter grip pressure gives you more control while keeping your mind calmer at the same time. Tony also covers why your backhand does most of the work here, including why the chicken wing is perfectly fine on this shot. Then he shows you the one-two technique for handling bangers: block the first ball, let the second one go. Simple, logical, repeatable. Stick around to the end for a way to practice the block volley at home, no court and no partner required. Train your brain, and you will play better.
