Jeep "Service Dynamic Steering Torque" Warning — What It Means & How to Fix It

Is your Jeep showing a SERVICE DYNAMIC STEERING TORQUE warning message on the dashboard? In this video, we explain what the Dynamic Steering Torque (DST) system is, why this warning comes on, and how to diagnose the problem step by step. Dynamic Steering Torque is a safety feature that works with the electronic stability control (ESC) system to apply small steering corrections and help you keep control of the vehicle. When the system detects a fault, the Service Dynamic Steering Torque message appears on the instrument cluster — often together with the ESC / traction control light, the steering wheel warning icon, or the ABS light. Common symptoms include: the Service Dynamic Steering Torque message at startup or while driving, steering that feels heavier or inconsistent, the warning appearing after a battery replacement or disconnect, after a wheel alignment, or after front-end repair work. We go over the most common causes and things to check, including a low or weak battery (a very common trigger), steering angle sensor calibration, electric power steering (EPS) system faults, ABS module communication issues, and wiring problems. Related fault codes may include steering angle sensor codes such as C121A (steering angle sensor not learned/calibrated) and EPS or ESC module codes. To read and clear these codes — and perform a steering angle sensor calibration — you'll need a full-system scanner such as the YOUCANIC UCAN-II, since basic OBD2 code readers can't access the steering and ABS modules. This warning is most common on the Jeep Renegade (2015–2023, including the 2019 facelift) and Jeep Cherokee (2014–2023), and also appears on the Jeep Compass. Because these vehicles share their platform and electronics with other FCA / Stellantis models, this video also applies to the Fiat 500X and other Fiat and Alfa Romeo models showing the same Dynamic Steering Torque warning.
