Uphill lie. Fluffy dry sand. The instinct is max loft. But max loft also means minimum bounce, and in fluffy sand, you NEED bounce. Here's the number that changes everything: 52° Gap Wedge → 14° of bounce ✅ 58° Wedge → 8° of bounce ❌ Bounce is the sole angle that lets the club skip through sand instead of digging in. In fluffy conditions, low bounce buries the club and kills the shot. The other thing? An uphill lie adds 5–10° of dynamic loft at impact anyway. You're not giving up height by going to the 52°.
