You're already over-the-top before you start down
Here's the part nobody tells you about an over-the-top golf swing: it starts on the backswing, not the downswing. When your arms race ahead of your body in the takeaway, the club gets pulled deep and narrow behind you. Collapsed structure, no width, completely trapped. And from that position, there is literally only one way to get the club back to the ball. Over the top. It is not a bad habit on the downswing. It is the only logical recovery from a backswing that went wrong first. Step, swing. Body leads, arms follow. Keep the club in front of you going back and the over-the-top move loses its reason to exist. This is the third of three root causes in the full video on our channel.
