We're Constructing Something BIG on Our Abandoned Land
We're turning abandoned land in rural Italy into a self-sufficient homestead. This week, we're taking on a new construction project: building a 25m rocky pathway on a hillside. Follow along as we do it ourselves and create a beautiful wooden walkway for our garden path. Perhaps one of the biggest physical challenges on our off-grid homestead yet. We start by building a new terrace at the top of the hillside, then we spend days carving out a winding path through bone-dry compacted ground. Falling into rocks, battling allergies and questioning every decision along the way. Plus Emily restores and repaints the windows on our tiny home — with a few creative differences along the way. Join our project from start to finish! 📌 In this episode: 0:00 Welcome to our off grid homestead 0:44 New project begins! 0:54 Constructing a terrace 5:10 Hauling materials uphill 6:18 First injury on the path 7:00 Day two — carving the path begins 8:44 Setting the poles 10:36 Digging through compacted ground 11:37 Planning a future trellis for climbing plants 12:46 Restoring our tiny home windows 20:35 Restoration result 22:05 Back to the path — the final stretch 26:55 Finished!
