The magic power source most senior golfers have turned off

When distance starts dropping, most golfers assume it's just age. Usually it's tension. As we get older, something quietly happens in the swing. The lower body shuts down, the arms take over, and the wrists lock up trying to stay in control. The result is a stiff, cramped motion that has no chance of generating real speed, no matter how hard you try to muscle it. The fix starts with the wrists. Shake them out, do some circles, and then try the L-to-L drill. Swing the club back and through with free, loose wrists and listen for the whoosh. That sound is speed. And that speed doesn't come from strength, it comes from looseness. Tight muscles are slow muscles. Loose wrists are fast wrists. That's the whole secret. Full video with all three speed fixes on our channel As golfers get older, it’s easy to think that hitting the ball farther is just a lost cause. But guess what? The real issue is usually all about tension. As time goes by, your swing starts to change a bit. Your lower body doesn’t really kick in like it used to, your arms take over, and your wrists get stiff as you try to keep everything in check. This makes for a tight and rigid swing, which totally kills your chances of picking up real speed, no matter how hard you try. To tackle this, start with your wrists. Loosen them up, do some easy circles, and then give the L-to-L drill a shot. Begin your swing with relaxed wrists—both back and through—and listen for that whoosh. That sound is all about speed. And remember, that speed doesn’t come from muscle strength; it comes from being flexible. When your muscles are tense, you become slow. But relaxed wrists? They give you quickness. That’s the big takeaway. For a full video showing all three tips to help you boost your speed, check out our channel.
