Passively active, that's what your wrist should be.

Two words that will change how you think about your wrists in the golf swing forever. Passively active. Your wrists are not supposed to be stiff and locked. But they are not supposed to be consciously manipulated either. They respond to the forces already at work in the swing. The weight of the club builds momentum, the momentum creates the hinge, and the hinge stores energy that gets released through impact. You do not make it happen. You let it happen. The golfers who struggle most with this are the ones trying to control the angle, either forcing the hinge early or holding it off too long. Both drain the stored energy before it can do anything useful. Set it by staying loose. Release it by staying loose. The wrists will do exactly what they need to do if you just get out of their way.
