What is a Fiber Post?

Fiber post placement 🦷is a dental restorative procedure that reinforces a root canal-treated tooth. A flexible, aesthetic glass or quartz fiber post is bonded directly into the root canal space to support a crown or core buildup, preventing root fractures by evenly distributing chewing forces. 1. Canal Preparation -Obturation Removal: Part of the endodontic material (gutta-percha) is removed using calibrated burs (such as Gates Glidden burs) to create the necessary space. At least 4 mm of apical seal must be left to avoid compromising the root. -Shaping: The bur corresponding to the thickness of the chosen post is used to create the appropriate diameter and depth. -Cleaning: The canal is irrigated with 5.25% sodium hypochlorite, rinsed with distilled water, and dried completely with paper points. 2. Conditioning and Try-In -Post Try-In: The fiberglass post is inserted into the canal to verify its fit (it should go in and out smoothly), and any coronal excess is trimmed if necessary. -Post Treatment: The post is cleaned with alcohol, silane (coupling agent) is applied, and it is allowed to dry for one minute to improve adhesion. -Etching and Bonding: The dentin is acid-etched inside the canal, rinsed, dried, and the bonding system is applied and light-cured according to the manufacturer's instructions. 3. Cementation and Reconstruction -Cement Application: Dual-cure resin cement is introduced from the bottom of the canal outwards using a fine point (avoiding the use of lentulo spirals, as they accelerate setting). -Post Placement: The fiberglass post is inserted slowly and with gentle pressure. Excess cement is removed, and the post is light-cured. -Cutout Preparation: Finally, composite resin is used around the exposed portion of the post to build the core, which is then shaped and prepared to receive the final crown. #dentist #shorts #doctor #medical #dentalcare #braces #invisalign #tooth #smile #smiley #wisdomtooth #wisdomteeth #pain #infection #satisfying #satisfyingvideo #implant #implants
